What should I bring to my apppointment?

Be sure to bring your ID and a list of your allergies and medications. It is also helpful to have a drink and a snack for longer sessions.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear something comfortable that provides access to the area that will be tattooed. Occasionally, tattoo ink will get onto clothing and is difficult to remove, so please plan your clothing accordingly.

Can I get a hand, finger, or foot tattoo?

Yes, with an understanding of potential issues in those areas. Disclaimer about hand/finger/foot tattoos: The skin in these places has higher cellular turnover rates, more sun exposure, is thicker, and experiences more friction than other areas on the body. For these reasons, tattoos in these places often look blurry quicker and more frequently need touch-ups, so a free touch up is not included with these tattoos.

What is a paramedical tattoo?

A paramedical, or medical tattoo, is a specialized form of tattoo artistry that is used to create or restore a more natural appearance in the setting of surgical scars, medical conditions, nipple loss, navel loss, or injuries. It includes, but is not limited to: reduction of the appearance of scars, re-creation of the appearance of nipples and areolas, particularly after mastectomy or breast reduction, rec-reation of a navel (belly button) post surgery, and stretch mark camouflage.

What is a 3D nipple/areola tattoo?

A 3D nipple/areola tattoo is a paramedical tattooing process in which a realistic optical illusion of a nipple and areola are tattooed onto a flat surface.

Will my insurance cover 3D Nipple/areola reconstruction and scar camouflage tattoos?

Insurance coverage depends on the insurance and indications for tattooing. Nipple and areola tattoos and scar camouflage related to cancer are often covered. Other scar camouflage and nipple tattoos may also be covered. Curious Crow Tattoo works with a medical tattoo billing service which is responsible for the authorization and claims processes.

Are numbing options available?

Numbing options are available in some circumstances. Please discuss these options with your artist prior to your tattoo service.

What is scar camouflage tattoing?

Scar camouflage tattooing is the tattooing of scar tissue with skin toned pigment to help decrease the appearance of scars so that they blend more with the surrounding skin. Scars include surgical scars, stretch marks, burn scars, self harm scars and areas of hypopigmentation.

Who is eligible for a scar camouflage tattoo?

Good candidates for scar camouflage tattooing have totally healed scars that are lighter than their skin tone.
